Answering the Call :The Doctor Who Made Africa His Life The Remarkable Story of Albert Schweitzer By Ken Gire I picked up this book because of the price and because I love reading biographies of individuals whose lives inspire my own. I had never heard of Albert Schweitzer, much to my shame and wondered after finishing it, how that was even possible. Needless to say, I am glad I got this book!  This is a chronological account of the life of an inspirational humanitarian doctor, theologian, philosopher, author, and musician. Many know who Einstein was but very few have heard of Albert Schweitzer. Schweitzer was a great mind from the 20th century, a scholar who abandoned fame, recognition, and wealth to spend his life caring for "the least of these." Spurred by God's command to love unconditionally, Schweitzer spent most of his life in the jungles of Gabon to be the hands and feet of Jesus, through loving, caring and healing others. This Fight

Did I lose the fight?  Was it even a fight? I've lived 19 years and just realized I've been fighting the wrong fight Teach me to be a loser Because we all know how to be victors But what when we lose?  We come wanting to win But what of those moments when life seems to have beaten us?  Did we not come with instructions for that? We need to learn to lose Because in our loss we are victors How? In our acceptance of failure we are made great through Him who won it for us Note: I wrote this poem in the summer following my second semester of college (2011)
