The Legacy

"Secrets of the Shetlands: The Legacy" By Michael Phillips I enjoyed this last novel in the Shetlands series. Phillips has done a masterful work in tying the end to the story of Loni and David. I love everything Scotland, so the imagery was a treat. I appreciate the attention to details on landmarks and in bringing the Scottish culture to life. The Legacy focuses on the past and the present (1924 & 2006). Told from a third person point of view, the reader gets insights into the characters' thoughts making it easier to connect with them on a deeper level. The story switches back and forth from 2006 to 1924, telling the story of Loni's great-grandmother, Emily. We get a front row seat into the beautiful past while watching present events unfold. Something that has hooked me into this series is Phillips style of writing: very meditative, deep conversations within the characters- I appreciate this very much as a person who is very ...

Winning The Battle For The Night

"Winning the Battle for the Night: God's Plan for Sleep, Dreams, and Revelation" By Faith Blatchford I hate writing these type of reviews as I'm forced to do with this book. When I ordered this book, I thought I was going to be reading about the importance of sleep, insomnia, etc.. I was not expecting a book on dreams. Yes, dreams are important, and I'm a firm believer that God makes revelations to people through dreams. I also believe that some dreams are prophetic. However, is a book really necessary on this subject?  99% of the book is the author referring the reader to pray, which is the reason to my asking about this book being necessary because God will reveal himself to whomever He wants through dreams, visions or no dreams at all. Not every believer has dreams with meanings. To make such a claim is to play with fire. We have to be very careful and ask for spiritual discernment when it comes to spiritual matters as dreams.  The autho...

Where I End

"Where I End: A Story of Tragedy, Truth, and Rebellious Hope" By Katherine Elizabeth Clark Wow, where to start? This book is a testament to God's goodness and faithfulness. Katherine's tragedy has served to strengthen her faith but also to encourage, inspire, and give hope to others. Thank you for your testimony, Katherine. While reading her words, one is able to follow her as she relives one of her most painful moments in her life but also to rejoice in the miracles of God's faithfulness.  Short Summary: Katherine had a normal life with her husband and two children, a loving church family, and an adventurous spirit. One day, while playing tag with some kids from her son's class, a boy jumped down from a slide, landed on her head and paralyzed her, neck down. She had immediate surgery, was diagnosed with quadriplegia, and given a grim prognosis, with little to no hope of ever regaining movement on her limbs. By God's miracle, Katie lef...
