Fascinating Bible Studies On Every Parable

"Fascinating Bible Studies On Every Parable:  For Personal Or Small Group Use" by Dr. William H. Marty This is a great Bible study tool on every single parable in the Bible. Kudos to the author for writing this super helpful book. I'm grateful for this book, I haven't seen another book that goes through every parable in the Bible. Jesus' parables contain important lessons about the Christian life that are essential to live like Him. So this book contains some very important information you may want to take a look at.  The book is broken thematically, which is so helpful when looking for a specific parable. Each parable gets a 4-8 page treatment including a brief explanation (some have charts) questions for reflection and a memory verse at the end.  The cover says that this book is great for personal or small group use but I think it serves better as a guide for a small group leader rather than for personal study. Each chapter is too short to be used as a persona...

Why Is That In The Bible?

"Why is That in the Bible? The Most  Perplexing Verses and Stories-And  What They Teach Us" By Eric J. Bargerhuff  This is a neat, helpful book on portions of Scripture many may find confusing or downright strange. Dr. Bargerhuff has written a very easy to follow, short Bible studies on 40 passages. Each portion gets a 4-6 page treatment. I'm glad I requested this book, as it contains some Bible portions that I have always wondered about, and here the author has done a great job of explaining them. He uses other passage references where needed, which I appreciate.  What is great about this book is that the author does not use ultra Theological jargon but layman's terms making it easy to understand no matter your education or years as a Christian. Overall, this a well-written helpful little book, great for everyone. I received a copy of this book from Bethany House in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

Writing for Life & Ministry

"Writing for Life & Ministry: A Practical Guide to the Writing Process for Teachers & Preachers" by Brandon J. O' Brien This book is slim but jam-packed with lots of helpful tips for writers. Though this book is catered more towards ministers who already are established speakers needing help with writing, as a mere Christian blogger myself and lifelong writer, this book was very helpful. Even if you're not a speaker, there are still many nuggets to take home.  O'Brien, a writer and educated minister, educator, and writing coach himself, knows what he is talking about.  He divides the content into two sections: The Writer & the Reader, and The Process. In the first section, he helps you find your identity as a writer and find your audience. The short exercises at the end of each chapter are very helpful.  The second section gives you insightful tips on the writing process itself. Some of these steps I already do but I found some new ones that I will def...

Paths to Power

"Paths to Power" by A.W. Tozer I was surprised by how tiny this book is. It's more of a booklet than an actual book but don't let its size fool you. Tozer packed a powerful Spiritual punch in under 80 pages. This little book will not let you walk away untouched and unconvicted.  Tozer discusses the reasons why Christians are not living to their Spiritual fullest, why believers are dead and indifferent to the Holy Spirit. But he answers with what we can do about it and how we can have revival today. This little bomb is not for the easily offended, it is for those who are willing to listen to the clarion call. He makes a strong claim for Christian obedience which will probably step on some toes but no apologies. This book is for the mature Christian hungry for meat, not milk.  Some of my favorite quotes from the book:  "To escape the error of salvation by works we have fallen into the opposite error of salvation without obedience." "To the casual observer...
