Overcome

"Overcome: Replacing the Lies That Hold Us Down With the Truths That Set Us Free" Clayton King I was not familiar with the ministry of Clayton King but now thanks to this book, I have added him to my list of ministries that I follow. King has a great gift for speaking which can also be seen through his writing. Overcome is not a self-help Christian book (there's too many of those already, the Christian community doesn't need any more of those) but rather unapologetic powerful truths for self-reflection. King goes through several lies we tend to believe that hinder our spiritual growth. Through personal stories and the testimonies of others, King acknowledges the most common lies of the human heart one by one and destroys them with the power of the Word of God. If you've ever felt stuck, unloved, hurt, ashamed, unhappy, or angry at God, this book is for you. This is not one of those how-to books; King helps you identify the root problem and provides ...

Martin Luther In His Own Words

"Martin Luther In His Own Words: Essential Writings of the Reformation" Jack D. Kilcrease Erwin W. Lutzer This is a great introduction to Martin Luther's writings for those interested in his works. It is a shame that not many Christians are interested in these foundational works that framed the Reformation. Many only know Luther as the ex-Catholic monk who nailed the 95 theses, some don't even know this well- known piece of knowledge. It should pique the interest of a handful of believers (or I hope so). The ...

Dispensationalism and The History of Redemption

"Dispensationalism and the History of Redemption: A Developing and Diverse Tradition"  D. Jeffrey Bingham, Glenn R. Kreider Craig A. Blaising, Darrell L. Bock Oscar A. Campos, Nathan D. Hosteen Eugene H. Merrill, T Maurice Pugh Michael J. Svigel, Stanley D. Toussaint  This book is an excellent resource for those who know nothing about dispensationalism or only have a vague idea. I knew nothing prior to reading this book. I feel a bit more confident about the subject and at least know the basics. This is a collection of essays from various professionals, so do not expect to read a 'fun' and entertaining book with definitions and examples on the topic, this is more of a scholarly nature. Arranged in a sensical manner; the first chapter gives a detailed explanation on dispensationalism and some examples of where it is found in Scripture. The following chapters go more in depth on the history, application, and future of dispensationalism. Readers wi...
