Where We Belong

"Where We Belong" By Lynn Austin If you are a bookworm who enjoys lengthy historical romance novels, this one is for you. The story switches back and forth between 1890 to1860 and 1880s. It is told from 4 characters' perspectives: sisters, Rebecca and Flora Hawes, their butler, Soren Petersen, and their lady's maid, Kate Rafferty. Taking place on a Sinai expedition in 1890 and constantly shifting to Chicago 1860s. The novel is divided into 5 parts, first focusing in Rebecca, then Flora, Petersen and finally Kate then ending with Rebecca. The story opens up in the Sinai desert as the sisters and their 2 young servants, as they make their way to the basilica of St. Catherine. With alternating chapters to the past. Each character reflects on their past leading them to the present.  I enjoyed the plot and the way the story was told. I don't usually enjoy books with multiple points of view, I like sticking to a one protagonist plot, but this novel ...

Mrs.Oswald Chambers

"Mrs. Oswald Chmabers: The Woman behind the World's Bestselling Devotional" By Michelle Ule Mrs. Oswald Chambers has easily become one of my favorite Christian biographies. Absolutely loved it from the first to the last page! Not to mention, the pictures in the middle of the book are a great detail to the story.  The book centers around Biddy Chambers but talks a great deal about Oswald Chambers himself. The research behind the book is astounding! You can tell a lot of careful time and hard work was put into the writing. The author's storytelling is very engaging; told from the third point view with glimpses into Ms. Ule's imagination.  It spans from Biddy's childhood all throughout her adult years, meeting, marrying Oswald, ministering together, to his death and the preparing of all the books to her death and the death of their daughter Kathleen. Reading Mrs. Oswald Chambers was a humbling read drawing many emotions from happiness...

Why I Believe

"Why I Believe: Straight Answers to Honest Questions about God, the Bible, and  Christianity" By Chip Ingram This is an honestly written book. It is what it says it is, straight answers to questions about God, the Bible, and Christianity. Chip goes directly into the issues and doubts he wrestled with as a youth that many others struggle with. This is not a detailed, in depth apologetics manual, and Chip says so himself in the first few chapters. This book are his answers to those questions and why he personally believes. If you are looking for a good book on apologetics look into Ravi Zacharias, William Lane Craig or Frank Turek because this book was not meant for that.  Chip addresses each question with scripture, science, history and logic. This a great book to have on your nightstand, very thought-provoking, enjoyable and a great read. If you're looking for a book that cuts straight through the tough questions with simple, straightforward answers, wi...
