"A Daring Venture"
By Elizabeth Camden
Biochemist Dr. Rosalind Werner bumps heads with newly appointed water board commissioner, handsome Nick Drake over the safety of NYC's water in the early 1900s. Dr. Werner has been studying and experimenting on the effects of chlorine for water treatment. Nick Drake, on the other hand, is skeptical of this new scientific discovery and would rather stick with filtration. As each sticks to their views, they cannot help but fall in love. Will they come to an agreement without falling apart?
Can I say how much I enjoyed this novel? For once in a long time, I did not want the story to end. Both protagonists are fascinating, each strong-willed in their own way. They tackled the problems coming their way together and even Nick's evil aunt Margaret could not stop them from achieving success. I love how they were able to come to an agreement over the water treatment and found love. Lucy and Colin from A Dangerous Legacy appear in this novel quite frequently so if you enjoyed the first book in this series you will enjoy this one.
This is novel has all the good elements you're looking for in a great romance. And of course, the historical background is always a big plus. Two of the characters in the novel were real people and so was the chlorinated water treatment experiment and implementation in the NYC water system mentioned in the novel. Leave it to Ms. Camden to write one of the most historically accurate romance novels I've ever read.
I can't wait for the next installment in the series. I recommend!
I received a copy of this book from Bethany House in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
