Susie: The Life and Legacy of
Susannah Spurgeon"
By Ray Rhodes Jr.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this biography of Charles Spurgeon's wife. We hear much about the preacher but next to nothing about his wife. Before reading this book, I knew nothing about Susie Spurgeon and I'm glad the author felt moved to write it.
Susie was not only Charles Spurgeon's wife but his helpmate. She was a great support to him throughout his ministry years and was there when he needed uplifting. As a popular preacher, his life came with much work and was an easy target for criticism and problems. Susie was a strong woman and a mature Christian to be able to take on this difficult role. Charles gives her much credit with helping him in times of need.
I fell in love with their beautiful relationship, theirs was one of true godly, gentle love. Their love story seems like a movie and is one many only dream of having.
The biography is very well-researched, it's easy to read, and all around, an enjoyable read.
I received a copy from Moody Publishers in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
