Suffering is Never For Nothing

"Suffering is Never For Nothing" By Elisabeth Elliot I always jump at the opportunity to request an Elisabeth Elliot book, she has been a huge inspiration in my Christian walk and remains my favorite author. This short little book (approx. 110 pages) is a series of talks Mrs. Elliot gave years ago before her passing. Her messages were meshed together and edited to be printed in book form so naturally, her voice is different in this one.  There are many Christian books on the subject of suffering and pain but none has as much Biblical wisdom as this one in  just100 pages! Coming from a life riddled with so much pain after losing 2 husbands and suffering health issues, Elisabeth learned and gained so much wisdom through her pain. She shares that valuable wisdom with you in this book. As a young adult myself, reading through her book is like having a conversation with a wise and godly grandmother (at least that's how I feel).  Even though I'm not cur...

Mending Fences

"Mending Fences" The Deacon's Family series (book 1) By Suzanne Woods Fisher  I have to start off by saying that I'm not a fan of Amish novels. But I've read several books by Suzanne Woods and have loved them all, I said, "why not?" I'm glad that I decided to give this novel a try. This is the first book in The Deacon's Family series but most of the characters were introduced in previous book series. The story follows the continuation of  Luke Schrock's alcoholism recovery. He has returned to Stoney Ridge where we witness him heal and recover, and mend his relationships with the community.  This is a unique story, especially for an Amish novel but that's what I like about it, it portrays real life and the struggles of many others. Luke seeks and finds redemption and forgiveness. A story like this one will always hit home for somebody. I love how Suzanne always includes the message of God's love and grace in her stor...

Love Where You Live

"Love Where You Live: How to Love Sent in  The Place You Call Home" By Shauna Pilgreen Shauna takes you to a deeper place with "Love Wher You Live." Using personal experiences and the lessons God has taught her about loving her city, Shauna brings up truths you may have encountered and others you had never thought about. It's not about changing cities, or places whenever you want to escape something but about learning to love your neighbor and showing them Christ. Shauna gives practical tips on how we can start loving our cities. Loving our home is about loving our neighbors.  This book hit home in a couple different places for me because as an introvert who doesn't like talking to people much, I've learned to care and love others by simply being a good listener and lifting them up in prayer. Also, the title caught my attention because right after high school, the one thing I had always wanted to do was leave my small town in search...
